Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is a Malaysian public university located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia and was established on November 24, 1994. His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong proclaimed the establishment of UMS under Section 6(1) of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971. The institution is Malaysia's ninth university. Prof Datuk Dr Mohd. Noh Dalimin is the current Vice-Chancellor in UMS.

Assc.Prof Dr Amran Ahmed is given the mandate to be the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affair & Alumni).

The student representative Council is the ultimate legislative body among the students. A general election is held every year to elect representatives to the student representative Council. Members of the student representative Council, like those of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom, are appointed. They are commonly referred to as MPs or YB.
