Origins
UIET was founded in July 2002 when the university decided that it should play a leading role in catering to the demands of the upcoming industry in the region. Hence the Engineering Institute was set up as a new department of the university. Then without its own infrastructure, the institute's classes in the first few days were held in different rooms of the other departments already set up in the campus. The institute finally got its own building (called Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall) from where it will finally shift to its full-fleged campus in Sector-25 near the university campus.
Faculty UIET is headed by the Director who is assisted by the Co-ordinators of the different branches of the Institute. UIET has five proffesors, two readers and more than 45 lecturers as Faculty Members.
Building and Infrastructure UIET is housed in Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall which covers a total area of 5000 square yards. The institute is well equipped with the infrastructure for computer science engineering. It has seven computer laboratories. One of these was the only college laboratory in the north India in January 2003 comprising of Sun Microsystem computers. UIET also has three laboratories in its biotechnology department. These labs are equipped with the instruments for experiments in the Animal Cell Culture, Recombinant DNA Technology, Enzyme Engineering and Technology and Industrial Microbiology among other fields of or related to biotechnology.
Co-curricular Activities Spektrum Spektrum is the institute's wall magazine, started by some students of the first batch. Wall Magazine is a periodical run on a notice board especially in an educational institute where the students and and other members of the institution can post their articles, poems, drawings and other such compositions to share with each other. ...
It was named after the society of Swedish speaking students of chemistry, mathematics, physics and computer science and which Linus Torvalds was a part of, during his years at University of Helsinki.[1] Spektrum has played an important role as a platform for the students to express their creative cerebration and enrich it by each other's ideas. Started as a weekly with stress on technical issues, it is now updated at least every two days with more emphasis on literary articles.
Goonj Goonj is the department annual fest. It was first organised in February 2005 and several literary events such as English and Hindi debates and Young Turks, technical events such as Technical paper presentation and cultural events such dance competitions , fashion show, and star night featuring the Indian rock band Euphoria were held. However in the next following year, fashion show and star night were discontinued in accordance with the university directives. Another innovative event by the name of Men at Work was also started that tested the marketing strategies and advertising skills of the students. The students who organised the fest the first time drew ideas from other major College fests in country such as Techfest of IIT Bombay, where some of them attended technical events such as astronomy workshop, and Rendezvous of IIT Delhi. Quiet Quiet is the official department newsletter published every 3 months. Its first issue was released in 2005 which was printed in black and white format. However , subsequent issues added colour pages and today it is a full feature , all colour publication.

Placements The first batch of UIET passed out in the summer of 2006. 85% of the batch got placed from the campus itself. The companies recruited the students included Agilent Technologies, Newgen, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Grapecity, Induslogic, HCL Comnet, Infosys,Panacea SAP-GRC, Siemens Info Systems , Polaris, e-Value Serve and Nucleus software. The prospects look brighter for the 2007 batch as already many companies have confirmed and placement starts from June 2006 itself.
