Unquestionable Presence is the second album by the death metal band Atheist. It was released in 1991 and it added a new and fresh sound by using jazz-like harmonies and unusual time signatures. It is considered a landmark album in the genre of technical death metal.[1] Bassist Roger Patterson wrote the bass lines for Unquestionable Presence, but he was killed in a touring van accident before the recording sessions took place. His work, however, can be heard on the pre-production demos included with the 2005 re-release. Tony Choy was brought in as a replacement to play bass on the album. Unquestionable Presence Review | Atheist | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com (802 words)
Unquestionable Presence is just as rewarding once decoded, and is still considered by experts to be one of the Floridian death metal scene's ultimate statements in progressive metal.
The drumming especially is influenced highly by jazz and it works, it gives this album some groove but not to the point of it being groove metal (Which for me is good as groove metal is pretty boring).
Although i love Unquestionable Presence, i prefer Elements, only because i think the sound is more unique, but nonetheless i still think Atheist were a great band.
ATHEIST Unquestionable Presence music reviews and MP3 (2335 words)
Relentlessly fast, incredibly technical, ragingly heavy and surprisingly groove-laden, Atheist's Unquestionable Presence is up there with Death's The Sound of Perseverence and Cynic's Focus as one of the best progressive death metal albums to emerge from Florida in the 90s.
Their debut effort Piece of Time was more raw and to the point, their swansong Elements was even more ambitious and proggy, but Unquestionable Presence is not only the group's masterpiece, but one of the best metal albums ever recorded.
Unquestionable Presence will take a few listens for anybody to fully absorb thanks to the dense barrage of rapid fire riffs, jarring time signature changes, unusual semi-growled vocals, and really just sheer innovation.
