Interestingly, it was recorded at a sample rate of 96khz, and a bit depth of 24 bits. A lot higher than most recordings at the time.[1] The album was leaked onto the Internet several months before its official release date. After the leak, there was much speculation about the authenticity of the album's material, and whether or not songs would be added, removed, or modified on the official release. Upon the album's official release, however, the only differences between what was available on the Internet and the official album were the songs' titles (with the exception of "Here to Stay"), chronological order of tracks and the intro to "Beat it Upright" and outro of "Embrace" removed for unknown reasons. Not available via the Internet before the album's release, however, was a remixed version of "Here to Stay," which was included on the initial pressing of the album for the United States[citation needed], dubbed as the "limited edition." Untouchables sold 434,126 copies its first week, but was unable to surpass sales of The Eminem Show, released two weeks earlier on May 28, 2002, and debuted at #2. The album has only gone platinum as opposed to multiplatinum like all their previous albums. The band have blamed Internet piracy, but others blame what they see as a decline in the band's songwriting since Follow the Leader for the drop in sales. Despite the initial cold reception by fans especially in the U.S., it has earned numerous very positive reviews by most respected music magazines[2] (some of them regarded it as Korn's best),[citation needed] and made success overseas. Brian "Head" Welch claims on the Deuce (Asylum) DVD that he didn't like playing the songs live. The album marks their second to use alternative metal in place of the hip-hop influenced nu metal of their first album, although there are some nu metal songs such as "Bottled Up Inside". New techniques were used on this album as well: Untouchables featured elements like undistorted guitars and electronics on some songs, giving the album an overall mellow but spookey feel, with one critic calling it a "purgatorial symphany". Songs of this variety include "Hollow Life" and many others. However, Korn didn't completely abandon their original nu metal sound, featuring songs as aggressive as any they'd ever recorded, like "Here to Stay" or "Wake Up Hate". Untouchables was also released in a "clean" version, which used a form of backmasking to remove words and also did not include the track "Beat It Upright".
