A visbreaker is a chemical plant based on a techology whereby via thermal cracking in a furnace reactor (at high temperature) heavy hydrocarbons (e.g. vacuum distillation residue) is transformed into lighter hydrocarbons. Heavy hydrocarbons are generally used as fuel oil in chemical plants. The product of the visbreaker has a lower viscosity. In ecomomic terms this means that less diluents have to be added to use the vacuum residue as fuel oil. The name visbreaker literally means "breaks the viscosity". Thermal cracking such as visbreaking is in general less efficient than catalytic cracking. A Chemical plant is an industrial process plant that manufactures chemicals, usually on a large scale. ... Nuclear Decommissioning - Monument Valley (Monument #2 Upgrader) Mill (1789 words)
The Monument Valley uranium district is in the southern part of the Monument Upwarp, a north-trending, broad asymmetrical anticline (fold structure) in northeastern Arizona and southeastern Utah.
The Monument 2 upgrader plant was constructed in mid 1955 by VCA and operated until July 1964.
The upgrader used attrition (grinding) and classification (separation of the fines and sand fractions) to concentrate the uranium and vanadium values.
