Upper Burma was a term used by the British to refer to the central and northern area of what is now the country of Myanmar. Between the end of the Second Anglo-Burmese War in 1852 and the Third Anglo-Burmese War of 1885, Lower Burma was under British rule, while Upper Burma was not.
