Research
A collaboration of 25 universities and government agencies have been researching seismic hazards, neotectonics, and water management of the Quaternary Graben fill. The research focuses on four themes [1]:
"Neotectonics and Seismic Hazard (Identification of zones of on-going deformation. Present stress regime. Earthquake location & frequency. Hazard assessment.)"
"Modeling of Hydro systems (Modeling of Plio-Quaternary hydro systems of the Upper Rhine Graben and of transfer time of pollutants within them)"
"Structure and Evolution (Reassessment of structural evolution of the Upper Rhine Graben and implications for its neotectonic deformation; Fault reactivation, crustal rheology and earthquake activity)"
"Dynamic Modeling (Multi scale dynamic modeling of the past and present deformation of the Rhine Graben area)"
UpperRhine, that was to be erected, was to include the Dioceses of
UpperRhine, the circumscription, equipment, and founding of the five dioceses belonging to it with their cathedral chapters, also the filling of the archiepiscopal see, the episcopal sees, and the offices of the cathedral foundations".
UpperRhine was now established, and the episcopal sees filled, but satisfactory relations between Church and State had not yet been attained.
The organization of the Confederation of the Rhine, the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, and the supremacy in southern Germany of Napoleon, who had no desire for the settlement of the ecclesiastical confusion in Germany, made it impossible to conclude a concordat.
The church Province of the UpperRhine, that was to be erected, was to include the Dioceses of Freiburg, Fulda, Limburg, Mainz, and Rottenburg, with the metropolitan see at Freiburg.
