Uruma City (うるま市 Uruma-shi) is a city in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. On April 1, 2005, Gushikawa-shi, Ishikawa-shi, Katsuren-chō, and Yonashiro-chō merged to form Uruma City. The city name comes from an archaic alternate name for Okinawa in Okinawan, meaning coral (uru) + island (ma).
