This is the first Regina Spektor song to have an accompanying music video. It shows Spektor climbing into a dark green room and unpacking an assortment of objects from a trunk, including a piano, rug, a globe, and some seeds, which she places on the rug and grows with water. The video contains some bizarre scenes, such as toy soldiers coming out of Spektor's mouth, and ends with her placing everything (including herself) into the trunk, which vanishes. One (U2 song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (938 words)
The most basic interpretation suggests the song to be about two people who love each other (romantically or otherwise), but hurt each other too much to continue with their relationship, which is a prominent lyrical theme.
Others interpret the song as achieving oneness in the spiritual sense, while yet another point of view suggests that it's about the reunification of East and West Germany and the subsequent, slow healing of past wounds as the Berlin Wall collapses.
It is also interesting to note that this is the one song that has been played at every live show since the release of Achtung Baby (501 times).
