The San Antonio Silver Stars are a team in the Women's National Basketball Association. They play their home games in the SBC Center in San Antonio, Texas.
They moved to Texas in 2003. Before that they had been the Utah Starzz (possibly named after the old ABA team, the Utah Stars). The Salt Lake City, Utah team had been in the WNBA since 1997.

One of the eight original WNBA teams, the Utah Starzz never fully met the same success as their NBA counterpart, the Utah Jazz. They held the distinction of having the worst record in the WNBA in 1997 and were the first team to select in the 1998 WNBA draft. With their selection, they picked 7'2" center Margo Dydek, who easily became the tallest player in WNBA history. Unfortunately, the pickup of Dydek did little to help their cause and they again finished near the bottom of the league in the 1998 season.
Despite having a solid nucleus of stars in Jennifer Azzi and Olympian and Utah native Natalie Williams, the Starzz never ranked among the WNBA elite. The lack of commercial success the franchise found in Utah resulted in a move to San Antonio and a change of name to the "Silver Stars".
In 2003, the Silver Stars made their first major (and surprising) roster move when they traded star Natalie Williams along with Coretta Brown to the Indiana Fever in exchange for Sylvia Crawley and Gwen Jackson. In 2004, they did not make the playoffs for the second straight season, but did acquire all-star guard Shannon "Pee-Wee" Johnson.
Utah went into one of the greatest arenas, and in front of some of the best fans in the league, beat one of the WNBA's perennial powers to win their first playoff series.
Utah is the second-highest scoring team in the league, and with five players who score at least 9.6 points, the last thing the Sparks want is to put the ball back in Utah's hands.
Utah obviously isn't afraid of the Sparks, but the Starzz have to play better defense and come up with a huge win on the road.
Utah mountain peaks, on average, are the tallest in the country.
Utah's professional sports teams include the Utah Jazz of the NBA, the Salt Lake Buzz of Triple A baseball, the Utah Grizzlies Hockey club of the International Hockey League and the UtahStarzz of the WNBA.
Utah was acquired by the United States in 1848 in the treaty ending the Mexico War.
