Utica is a census-designated place located in Oconee County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,322.

Utica is located at 34°40'41" North, 82°55'43" West (34.678160, -82.928599)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,322 people, 578 households, and 361 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 378.1/km² (979.2/mi²). There are 684 housing units at an average density of 195.6/km² (506.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 76.85% White, 20.50% African American, 0.68% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.61% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 578 households out of which 29.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% are married couples living together, 18.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% are non-families. 32.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.87.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $28,712, and the median income for a family is $31,875. Males have a median income of $26,799 versus $17,260 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $12,909. 18.0% of the population and 12.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.1% of those under the age of 18 and 22.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
