Other VW Fox models

Fox was also the name of a small sedan and station wagon, derived from the hatchback VW Golf, produced in the 1980s in Brazil. During the late 1980s and early 90s, it was sold by VW in North America as an entry level model. In Brazil the two-door sedan was called VW Voyage, and in Argentina VW Gacel (four-doors were sold as VW Amazon and VW Senda). The wagon version, which was a 3-door due to Brazilian preference at the time, was also made and marketed as the VW Parati in South America and the VW Fox Wagon in North America. It was a design unique to South America, although it bore a family resemblance to the VW Jetta. Yes, the Fox is roomier than the Polo, the next biggest car on VW’s menu, and bigger and £1,290 cheaper than the VW Lupo, the city-car that it replaces.
VW also makes the Golf at this plant, and the factory has all the latest robots and laser welding technology to produce a Fox with exceptional body rigidity, and built in safety.
VW decided to build the Fox in Brazil to cut costs compared with the previous Lupo city-car, but unfortunately, the economics of the project have been torpedoed temporarily by the local currency’s recent strength.

The same engine could have been found in the Jetta and Golf of the time, but the Fox variation was heavily restricted compared to the other models.
Fox Options in North America included air conditioning, GL trim (with special cloth seats, map light, glove compartment light, trunk light, tachometer, painted bumpers, etc.), five speed manual transmission, and metallic paint.
