Cristóbal Vaca de Castro (c. 1492 Izagre, Spain, - 1566 Valladolid) was a Spanish colonial administrator in Peru. He was sent by Charles V to restore order between the factions of Pizarro and the Almagro after the assassination of Francisco Pizarro. Having made himself governor, he defeated Diego Almagro the Younger in 1542. He was succeded by the viceroy of Peru, Blasco Núñez Vela in 1544 and arrested on charges of sympathizing with the rebellion of Gonzalo Pizarro. He was imprisoned and sent back to Spain. Here, he was put in prison on accusations of illegal enrichment. After being cleared of the charges, he was designated to commander of the Order of Santiago and president of the Council of Castile between 1557 and 1561.
