VADODARA: While the drought has heaped on almost all the districts of the state a surfeit of affected people looking for relief work, politicians of Vadodara district, where this number is very low, are reportedly going out of their way to fish for relief workers.
While neighbouring districts of Dahod and the Panchmahals are grappling with the problem of providing a livelihood to 4.61 lakh and 3.90 lakh relief workers respectively, Vadodara district currently has just 14,870 workers which, collectorate sources say, may rise to just about 20,000.
District collector Bhagyesh Jha, however, feels that the situation arising out of the drought is fully under control and all genuine representations for declaring needy of relief work have been granted permission.
