VarVar is based off Kademlia and has its own network. Here's an excerpt from a press release email:
"Currently VARVAR resembles most other file-sharing tools like Kazaa and Gnutella. However it is not like them on the inside. VARVAR is based on an entirely novel peer-to-peer routing algorithm, called KADEMLIA, and it is the first peer-to-peer software based on a theoretically sound idea.
The goal of this pre-release is to make sure that the implementation of the searching algorithm works well.
VARVAR is not an entirely complete product yet as there is no firewall support, which means that some of you won't be able to download certain files." - Petar
