Vasily Andreevich Tropinin (Russian: Василий Андреевич Тропинин) (March 30 (O.S. March 19) 1776May 16 (O.S. May 4) 1857) was a Russian painter who worked in the Romantic movement. Much of his life was spent as a serf; he didn't attain his freedom until he was more than forty years old. His artistic output is reduced as such. Two of his more important works are a portrait of Alexander Pushkin and a portrait called "The Lace Maker." Vasily Tropinin. Biography - Olga's Gallery (1154 words)
Vasily Tropinin was one of the major Russian artists active in the first half of the XIX century.
During those years Tropinin managed to attend now and then free drawing lessons in the Academy of Arts, until in 1799, at the age of 23, he was sent by his owner to study art in the Academy.
Tropinin died on 3rd of May, 1857 and was buried in Moscow.
