Encyclopedia > Vectran

Vectran is a manufactured fibre, spun from a liquid crystal polymer created by Celanese Acetate LLC.

These fibres are noted for thermal stability at high temperatures, high strength, and good chemical stability. They're moisture resistant and are generally stable in hostile environments.

They are often used to construct ropes and cables, and to reinforce advanced composites.

These fibers have high-temperature resistance, high strength and modulus, and high resistance to moisture and chemicals, with good property retention in hostile environments. They are used as matrix fibers for advanced composites and as reinforcing fibers in advanced composites, ropes and cables, and in electronics applications.

Vectran - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (181 words)
Vectran is a manufactured fibre, spun from a liquid crystal polymer created by Celanese Acetate LLC.
They are often used in combination with some polyester as a coating around Vectran core; polyurethane coating can improve abrasion resistance and resistance to ultraviolet radiation and to act as a water barrier.
Vectran has melting point of 330 °C, with progressive strength loss from 220 °C. As it has high resistance to ultraviolet radiation, it can be used outside for long term, if inspected regularly.

Vectran HS is solving performance problems in critical marine, military, and industrial rope and cable applications.
Vectran HS is an outstanding candidate for replacement of steel and stainless steel constructions.
Vectran M fiber is a high modulus thermoplastic matrix fiber for applications requiring high impermeability, excellent property retention over a broad temperature range, and low moisture absorption.
