The St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo is the first Bulgarian university outside the capital city of Sofia. It was established on 15th September 1963 as a pedagogical institute. The first four disciplines were Bulgarian Filology, Russian Filology, History and Arts. Since then, the university has grown to become the largest one outside Sofia, with over 60 different disciplines in 7 faculties being available to students, as well as two colleges in Pleven and Vratsa.
