Encyclopedia > Veryan

Veryan is a picturesque village on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall, England.

It is best known for the five 19th century round thatched houses, each with a cross on top; they stand two at either end of the village and one in the centre. They are said to have been built round so that there was no corner for the Devil to hide, the crosses on the roofs were intended to drive the Devil away.

Nearby beaches include Pendower Beach and Carne Beach.
