The Vince Lombardi Trophy is the trophy awarded each year to the winning team of the National Football League's annual championship game, the Super Bowl. It is considered to be the NFL's most prestigious award. The trophy was originally called the "World Championship Game Trophy" when the Super Bowl was originally named the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. Lombardi was not content as an assistant coach, and in January 1959, at the age of 45, he accepted the position of head coach and general manager of the Green Bay Packers.
Lombardi was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971, and a week after his death, the NFL's Super Bowl trophy was renamed the Vince Lombardi Trophy in his honor.
