Overview

Viridian City is the next town after Pallet Town that the player goes to in the Pokemon Red and Blue series of games. It is considerably larger than Pallet Town, having five buildings instead of three and also having a large amount of non-building space. Several important things unfold here, such as the player's final gym battle, and this is also the first town in Kanto to have a Pokemon Center and a Pokemon Mart. There is an old man blocking the way when you first visit the town, and you may only pass through to Route 2 when you deliver a package from the PKMN Mart to Prof. Oak's lab in Pallet Town. This is also where the link to Indigo Plateau is in the games, and you can find an item in the woody area in the western part of town. Pokémon Gym

In the Pokémon Red, Blue, Leaf Green and Fire Red games, the Pokémon Gym will initially be closed, but once the player beats 7 Gym Leaders the Viridian City Gym will open and the player will be able to battle Giovanni, the Viridian City Gym Leader. Giovanni is the 8th and final Gym Leader before the Indigo Plateau. In the Gold, Silver, and Crystal games, Blue (Pokémon) is the gym leader here. In north-western Viridian City there will be an old man with a cup of coffee. When the player first arrives in Viridian City, this old man won't let them leave since he's in a grumpy mood. By entering the pokemart and getting a package, they will need to deliver it to Professor Oak back in Pallet Town. After getting a Pokedex from Oak in Pallet Town, the old man will be better. Also he will be happy to show the player how to catch Pokémon. For some reason, when the player responds to the old man by saying "No", watches the old man demonstrate how to catch a Pokémon, and then flies down to Cinnabar Island and surfs along the east coast, the player will almost always encounter Missingno. and 'M, two glitch Pokémon that can only be found by doing this trick, other than doing the Mew glitch. This was of course, removed in Fire Red and Leaf Green, the old man only shows you how to capture a pokemon once. He also gives you an Item called a Teachy TV, which acts as a tutorial for playing the game.


Trainer House

In the GSC games, there is a building called the Trainer House. In there, you will battle Cal, a trainer identical to you. He has 3 pokemon, Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr, all Lv. 50.
If you have used the Mystery Gift function, Cal will be replaced by the last person you performed it with, and they will have the same team as they had at the time.

The first visit was in episode two, (Pokémon Emergency). After Pikachu was badly injured in the first episode, it has to be healed in the Pokémon Center. While there, Ash first saw Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy. Misty also confronted him about her bike, eventually deciding to join him.
