Vladimir Ovchinnikov (born January 2, 1958) is a Russian pianist. A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, where he's currently professor of piano, he was awarded second place in the Montreal International Music Competition in 1980. In 1982, he shared the Silver Model with Peter Donohoe in the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In 1987, he took First Prize at the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. VladimirOvchinnikov appears regularly with such leading Russian orchestras as the Moscow Philharmonic; Moscow Radio Symphony and the St Petersburg Philharmonic; he also has a long standing relationship with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra and Yvegny Svetlanov with whom he has toured France; the Netherlands; North and South America.
VladimirOvchinnikov records regularly for Melodiya; for EMI Classics he has recorded albums of Liszt, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, and Shostakovich First Piano Concerto conducted by Maxim Shostakovich together with Pictures at an Exhibition for Collins Classics.
