The origins of the Czech duke Vladivoj are unclear. He was probably a Premyslid, or their distant relative. He began to reign in 1002, when the formal Czech duke Boleslaus III unwillingly ended his own reign. It is said that he was an alcoholic. Alcohol was also a possible contributor to his death in 1003.
