The racial makeup of the CDP was 47.87% White, 0.49% African American, 0.54% Native American, 11.39% Asian, 12.24% Pacific Islander, 1.34% from other races, and 26.13% from two or more races. Hawaii, along with the rest of the Hawaiian islands, was formed by the accumulation of lava erupting initially from a weak point or "hot spot" on the ocean floor.
