Since its 1999 debut, the VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE (http://www.voodoomusicfest.com) has called New Orleans home. The wide-ranging line-up of talent each year reflects the multitude of cultures which define the city. In its eight year run, the VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE has featured more than 350 performers and more than 600,000 fans. Music fans traveling from across the country and around the world come together annually to experience a musical convergence in New Orleans’ City Park to see how the locals do Halloween--with a little help from some of the most celebrated artists in the music world today. Known for its diverse blend of high quality artists from all genres as well as up and coming critical favorites, some past VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE performers have included Nine Inch Nails, Eminem, Green Day, Beastie Boys, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, Kid Rock, The Polyphonic Spree, Marilyn Manson, The Pixies, Cypress Hill, Steel Pulse and 50 Cent. In 2005, in the wake of the devastation in New Orleans and despite the obvious obstacles, the VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE took place on October 29--two months to the day after the city was flooded by Hurricane Katrina. It was staged as a free day-long event for the countless individuals who worked tirelessly and dedicated their time and energies to the clean-up and recovery of the region. The 2006 VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE returned to its City Park home--a good portion of which was underwater after the hurricane in 2005--for the October 28 and 29 shows. Nearly 100,000 people--a record-setting crowd for the festival--gathered together to watch performances from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Duran Duran, The Flaming Lips, My Chemical Romance, Social Distortion, Secret Machines, Kings of Leon and many more. 2006 also marked the debut of Flambeau--an area designed and dedicated to celebrating and passing the torch of New Orleans’ musical culture and celebrating its influences. Flambeau featured two performance areas: The WWOZ/SOCO Stage and the Preservation Hall Tent, as well as six full service local restaurants, an expanded local arts & crafts area and a wide ranging line-up of talent to honor the music of the region.
