WHBF is The Quad Cities' second oldest television station, behind WOC-TV. The station signed on the air on July 1, 1950 as a affiliate of CBS, ABC and DuMont networks. WHBF would also share the latter two with WOC during its early years until DuMont's demise in 1955 and until WQAD signed on as a ABC affiliate in 1963. Since then they have done successfully well as a CBS affiliate in terms of newscasts and syndicated programming, due to its commitment to the Quad Cities area.
