The English Wikipedia is now using MediaWiki v1.4beta6. See Special:Version for more detailed software information. Please report bugs to MediaZilla using the instructions at Wikipedia:Bug reports.
Most MediaWiki features have been reenabled including full text search and Special: pages to generate lists of orphans, short pages, and long pages. Special: pages for most wanted and most popular pages are still not working. For a full status report see: Wikipedia:Software status.
Hardware status
A new Cisco gigabit network switch has been installed, which should increase system performance and manageability. Five servers are still broken, and are awaiting repair under warranty. In addition, ten new servers are in the process of being deployed to cope with anticipated traffic growth. For more details, see: meta:Wikimedia servers, meta:Wikimedia hardware status.
The new servers have arrived. It will take some time for them before they can put into full service, as they need to be installed, networked, configured and tested first.
WPA implements the majority of the IEEE 802.11i standard, and was intended as an intermediate measure to take the place of WEP while 802.11i was prepared.
WPA was created by The Wi-Fi Alliance, an industry trade group, which owns the trademark to the Wi-Fi name and certifies devices that carry that name.
WPA is designed for use with an 802.1X authentication server, which distributes different keys to each user; however, it can also be used in a less secure "pre-shared key" (PSK) mode, where every user is given the same passphrase.
WPA projects primarily (90%) employed unskilled blue-collar workers in construction projects across the nation, but also employed some white-collar artists, musicians, and writers on smaller-scale projects, and even ran a circus.
It is to the eternal credit of the administrative officers of the WPA that discrimination on various projects because of race has been kept to a minimum and that in almost every community Negroes have been given a chance to participate in the work program.
Some who experienced work in the WPA have been known to refer to it as "We Poke Along," "We Piddle Along" or "We Putter Around." This is a reference to WPA projects that sometimes slowed to a crawl, because foremen had no incentive to speed up workers.
