WPAT are two radio stations licensed to Paterson, New Jersey which serves the New York City Metropolitan area on 930am and 93.1fm. The AM station first signed on in 1941 and the FM station signed on in 1957 originally from their studios in Newark, New Jersey moving to new studios on Church Street in Paterson and finally from their last studio on Broad Street in Clifton, New Jersey. They were owned by capital Cities Communications until 1985. Since Capital Cities Communications was merging with ABC and would acquire WABC 770 and WPLJ 95.5 they had to sell WPAT AM 930 and WPAT FM 93.1. WPAT AM and FM would be sold in 1985 to Park Communications. 1957 was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. ...

For years WPAT operated both frequencies with a beautiful music format. They gradually began to evolve to an adult contemporary format in 1992. By 1993 they were a broad based AC station and more uptempo in 1994. From October 1994 to their sign off in early in 1996 they were known as "Today's 93.1". WPAT 930 ran seperate programming in the evenings and weekend mornings with stuff like sports programming, public affairs shows, Broadway show, Sunday Mass, among other things. WPAT FM dropped the weekend specialty shows in 1994 when becoming "today's 93.1". In November of 1995 Spanish Broadcasting agreed to purchase the FM 93.1 license and transmitter. The building and intellectual property was excluded from the sale. The building, the AM transmitter, and AM 930 license would be sold to Heftel which was another Spanish Company. Beautiful Music was a mostly-instrumental music format that was prominent in American radio from the 1960s through the 1980s. ...

On January 19, 1996 at 11:59 PM WPAT ceased being an English language broadcaster when control of the stations were switched to their new owners. WPAT FM would no longer be broadcasting from Clifton but from Manhattan.WPAT DJ Karen Carson did the last airshift on WPAT FM as an AC station that day. Operations Director Ken McKenzie then aired a farewell speach on WPAT FM. On January 20 immediatly after WPAT signed off from CLifton the New Spanish WPAT FM would sign on. They still air a Spanish AC format today. WPAT 930 was sold to Heftel Broadcasting. WPAT AM 930 continued to run the AC format until March 26 at 3 PM. The News director did the farewell at that moment. WPAT 930 then changed the format to Spanish Mexican Music. They gradually added ethnic/leased programming and flipped to Korean completely by 1997. In the late 90's WPAT 930 was swapped to Multicultural Broadcasting for 105.9 FM. Heftel became known as Hispanic Broadcasting and today is owned by Univision. 105.9 FM is known as WCAA with a Spanish Contemporary format focusing on Tropical Music. WPAT 930 is still owned by Multicultural Broascasting and does an Ethnic Brokered format. Multicultural still owns WPAT's building but they currently still do not use it. The building remains vacant.
