107.7 began in 1969 originally as WENN, the FM simulcast to WENN-AM (now WAGG). It had been an Urban contemporary since the beginning in 1969. It later ended its simulcast with WENN-AM and skewed more towards being Mainstream Urban into the early 1990's. 1969 was a common year starting on Wednesday For other uses, see Number 1969. ... The format and calls remained until WENN was switched with WRAX, 106 the X when 105.9 became , 105.9 WENN, and 107.7 became 107.7 the X with a modern rock format. Citadel Broadcasting had applied to lower WRAX's power and move the transmitter site to Red Mountain.
