WVTM 13 signed on in 1949. Over the years they went through a couple different network affiliations but by the late 1960's they were an NBC affiliate. By the 1980's they were owned by Times Mirror Broadcasting.
In the early 1990's they were purcheased by Agile Broadcasting. In 1994 New World would agree to purchase WVTM along with sister stations 2 KTVISt Louis, 4KDFW Dallas/Ft Worth, and 7 KTBCAustin to New World. The other three would switch to Fox but WVTM would stay with NBC affiliation. The reason was that New World would not switch WVTM to Fox was because New World made a deal to pruchase Great American Broadcasting stations which owned WBRC crosstown. In early December 2006, the WVTM website, as well as that of sister station WNCN and WJAR, were redesigned; they now credit Media General in their copyright notices, and are no longer operated by Internet Broadcasting.
