Waiblingen is a town in the southwest of Germany, located in the center of the densely populated Stuttgart Region, directly neighboring Stuttgart. It is the capital of the Rems-Murr district. As of June 30, 2002 Waiblingen accommodated 52,685 inhabitants (25,827 men and 26,858 women).
As of October 1, 2000 the area of the town (including all external proprieties, such as forests) was 42.76 km².
Almost the entire town has been destroyed in 1634 during the Thirty Years' War, the citizens either killed or deported. It was rebuilt after the war and so the existing core part of the town dates back to the years between 1640 and 1700. Its fortifications are now nicely restored.

Waiblingen is also known as an excellent shopping town.
Since 1962 Waiblingen has been twinned with the French town of Mayenne (250 km west of Paris), since 1966 with the English town of Devizes (140 km west of London) and since 1988 with the Hungarian town of Baja (190 km south of Budapest) and last but not least with Jesi in Italy.
In the Waiblingen core town there are many sites of touristic interest: the battlements of the roofed Medieval town fortifications open to the public, the groups of half-timbered houses renovated in a historic or modern style.
