WakkaWiki is a very small wiki engine, that is very easy to install and maintain.
As of September, 29 2004, the website seems to be down and the project stopped, although a large community of contributors was still actively posting bugfixes, extensions and new functionalities. Lacking further maintainance, Wakka ceased being attractive to new users and saw most of its contributors migrate to one of its many forks.
Today, WakkaWiki survives in a number of forks, sharing the same ancestry but pursuing their own visions.
The focus of WakkaWiki was having a simple and expandable structure. It lacked some features, but thanks to its simple design there are various forks and variants available, such as WackoWiki and WikkaWiki or several others.
WikkaWiki is a fork of WakkaWiki, to which a number of new features have been added.
In 2003, the development of WakkaWiki came abruptly to an end, although a large community of users and contributors was still actively posting bugfixes, extensions and new functionalities.
First released in May 2004, WikkaWiki rapidly grew into a project aiming to remain faithful to Wakka's heritage of a lightweight engine with readable and accessible code. The latest version (1.1.6.2) was released in June of 2006 and introduces several major functionality enhancements, including embedded code blocks, syntax highlighting, and RSS feeds.
