Wakō (Japanese : 和光市; -shi) is a city located in Saitama , Japan .
As of 2003 , the city has an estimated population of 73,670 and the density of 6,673.01 persons per km² . The total area is 11.04 km².
History The city was established as Yamato Town in 1943, and renamed as Wako on its promotion to a city, October 31 , 1970 .
