The Walhonding River is a chief tributary of the Muskingum River in Coshocton County, Ohio in the United States. The Walhonding is a short river, as it is formed by the confluence of the Mohican River and the Kokosing River just 20 miles upstream of its mouth. From this source it flows generally east-southeastwardly, passing through Mohawk Dam, which was built in the 1930s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the purpose of flood control in the Muskingum watershed, and through the towns of Nellie and Warsaw. It meets the Tuscarawas River at the city of Coshocton to form the Muskingum River. A tributary (or affluent or confluent) is a contributory stream, a river that does not reach the sea, but joins another major river (a parent river), to which it contributes its waters, swelling its discharge. ... The Walhonding or White Woman river is formed in the northwestern part of the township by the junction of the Mohican river and Owl creek, the former flowing south from Tiverton township, the latter in a southeasterly direction from Knox county; thence the river flows eastwardly by a winding course and enters Jefferson township.
The surface from the river rises for a mile or two to the south and there forms a water shed, the land further south being drained by streamlets flowing in an opposite direction Tomica creek in the southwestern part of the township is the most noticeable of these.
Geographically, it lies in the northwest corner of the county, and iS bounded on the north by Holmes county, on the east by Monroe township, on the south by New Castle township and on the west by Union township, Knox county.

River access below the dam is via the gravel road through the recreation area.
Mohawk Dam Campground is located beside the Walhonding River below the dam on SR 715.
Remnants of the historical Walhonding Canal and its associated "locks" are located along the length of the Walhonding River from Coshocton to Cavello Station.
