Walter William Read (23 November 1855-6 January 1907) was an English cricketer, who was a right hand bat, right hand slow underarm bowler, but right hand fast roundarm bowler. He also captained England in two test matches, winning them both. Read was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1893.

Walter Read -- radio, antenna expert (432 words)
Walter Read, a lifelong radio and antenna expert who built a crystal set at the age of 11 and helped develop military radar during World War II and microwave antenna systems after the war, has died.
Read continued to play the trombone in a small swing band, to take photographs and to help his son study and prepare for his own radio license test, which he passed.
Read is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marion of Los Altos, who was his former high school classmate; and by his children, Jim of Inverness and Billie Jean Gergis of Concord.
