Encyclopedia > Walter Reed Hospital

Walter Reed Army Medical Center is a hospital run by the United States Army. It is part of the larger Walter Reed Health Care System, which includes some ten other hospitals.

The center is named after Walter Reed, an army doctor who led the team which discovered that yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes rather than direct contact.

Behind the walls of Ward 54 - Salon (1291 words)
For example, Walter Reed favors group therapy over one-on-one counseling; and the group therapy is mostly administered by a rotating cast of medical students and residents, not full-fledged doctors or veterans.
In written statements to Salon, Walter Reed said the mental and physical health of patients is the hospital's top priority and described its PTSD treatment regimen as being in line with modern medical standards.
The hospital also cited a recent survey in which 42 out of 45 psychiatric inpatients surveyed, or 94 percent, felt that their care was either outstanding or good.
Online NewsHour: Walter Reed Army Medical Center Set to Close -- August 25, 2005 (1602 words)
It is as you said a general hospital so it meant it always had a first rate surgical department, pathology department, internal medicine and even had an excellent pediatrics ward so the care there was as good as the care delivered anywhere in the world during its 96-year history.
Hospitals are very special places; they're places where's dramas unfold daily; they're places of tragedy and triumph and where people work and given their energies to them.
The new hospital would be a combination of both the Naval Medical Corps and the Army Medical Corps, but I have faith in the tradition of the Walter Reed military hospital that it will continue to do great things in the 21st Century in its new incarnation.
