Background of War Child
War Child consists of a group of independent organizations, working across the world to help children affected by war. War Child was founded upon a fundamental goal: to advance the cause of peace through investing hope in the lives of children caught up in the horrors of war. War Child has been active in over twenty war zones around the globe. War Child consists of three implementing offices: War Child Canada, War Child Netherlands and War Child UK. These offices operate as equal partners, share the same aims and goals, but are totally autonomous, with independent trustees and financial coordination. The offices have developed different focus and specialties, and often work closely together in countries where they each have projects. The UK office is focussing on child rights and child protection programmes aimed at the most vulnerable children, War Child Netherlands is focussed on psycho-social aid and War Child Canada on vocational training. Community peacebuilding and skills development are an integral part of War Child field projects. Typical examples of projects funded and carried out by War Child are psycho-social workshops, music therapy for traumatised children, Human Rights programs for refugees and sports programs.
