History

EarthForce realized that the Nova class dreadnought was ill-equipped to handle major planetary offensives after the military fiasco of the Akdoran invasion in the Shi'lassen Triumvirate. That, combined with EarthForce’s desire for a new kind of warship that could go toe to toe with Minbari warships and pull off major planetary assaults with few casualties, allowed for the creation of the Warlock class destroyer. The first prototype was built in 2261. At present (2268) 50 Warlocks are currently in service with more being constructed.

Design

Implementing the most advanced technology at Earth's disposal, which included Narn, Centauri, Dilgar, Minbari, and even Shadow technology, the Warlock class destroyer is the most powerful warship in human history. The destroyer is powered by 6 state of the art fusion reactors which produced a combined power output of 300,000 terawatts. It is propelled by Titan Engines LTD. Z-105 Ion/Particle thrust engines, which adopted some gravitic principles from Minbari technology. Because of this, the Warlock class was the first class of ship produced by Earth to feature artificial gravity. The technology used in its weapon systems were developed from technology that was brought from the Narn and stolen from the Centauri and Dilgar and with these improvements the Warlock became a worthy opponent even to the Minbari warships. Warlock (3125 words)
The first incarnation of the concept that later materialised in the Warlock Heavy Destroyer was the "Battlemaster project", whose origin is related to the availability of a new weapon belonging to the family of the heavy particles weapons: the "Aegis" cannon, later known as the G.O.D. (Global Orbital Defence) Cannon.
The Warlocks were close to the combat readyness in the 2260, and their inception in operational service during the Civil War was halted only thanks to the sabotages operated by the EFNI Naval commandos (see chronology, year 2261).
Maybe the best asset of the EA destroyers, from the Omega to the latter Warlock, is the polyvalence of the configuration: they are really equilibrated designs, competitive as battleships, well defended against specialised and generic menaces, with a powerful line of flight that reduced the need for specialised fighter carriers.
