Gameplay

Warsong Gulch is a 20 man capture the flag Battleground instance (10 per team). The objective of the match is to capture the opposing factions flag and return it to your base three times to win. This is one of two Battlegrounds (abbv. BG) to allow mid-level characters with BG instances for levels 10–19 (added in patch 1.8), 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 (brackets). The battleground area is evenly divided into two halves, one for Alliance and one for Horde. If a game starts and the numbers of players on each team is not approximately equal, a warning will be issued to all players and the game will end after 5 minutes. If, however, enough players join the outnumbered faction to bring the numbers to approximate equality, the timer will not continue to run. Objectives

  • Capture enemy flag and return it to players faction base 3 times. In order to score, the team must have its own flag in their possession.
  • Players defend their flag from the opposing faction.
  • Added honor bonuses after flag returns to players faction base. This honor increases when you are in a higher level bracket (e.g. A player in the 60 bracket would receive more honor per capture then someone in the 20–29 bracket).
  • Added reputation (faction) bonus when the flag is captured.
  • Experience is awarded after player's faction is victorious in the BG. This also increases as you go into higher level brackets.
  • Take an insignia from an opposing player's body after they are killed to keep them from returning to their body.
  • 3 respawning power-ups:
    • Berserking: Increases damage inflicted by 30%, received by 10% and character size by 10%.
    • Restoration: Restores 10% of health, mana, pet happiness a second for 10 seconds.
    • Speed: For 10 seconds speed is increased by 100%.

Upon victory the players are rewarded with 3 tokens that may be given to an NPC outside of the instance to recive a reputation and experience bonus. After the release of Patch 1.7, one token is awarded when your faction is defeated. You can still turn in 3 tokens to get a reputation bonus (in other words, 3 defeats is the same reward as 1 win). Exploits

Until 1.9, all players were able to use a terrain glitch to climb the cliff where the horde graveyard is located. This forced the pursuers to take a longer route. This was viewed with harsh criticism as most players could not perform this feat.

In early level games, Shamans and Druids tend to have an advantage as each acquires a travel form that is more efficient and faster than other classes. Druids become even more powerful in the late-game, when PvP equipment allows them to travel faster than a base mount. They are also able to instantly enter travel form while in combat and use transform out of slowing and stopping effects.
