Geography

Watertown is governed by a Town Council system, typical of many older New England townships. The Town Council system gives maximum power to the voters, who must approve via referendum any appropriation of municipal monies.


Watertown also includes the section known as Oakville, which is often mistaken for a seperate town. Although Oakville has its own post office and zip code, it does not have a charter or town government of its own.


Watertown is the home of American hero and patriot Jonathan Trumbull, who's statue is included in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the United States Capitol Building.
