Waukesha is a town located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,596. The City of Waukesha is located adjacent to the town.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 59.5 km² (23.0 mi²). 59.3 km² (22.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.44% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 8,596 people, 2,891 households, and 2,494 families residing in the town. The population density is 145.1/km² (375.8/mi²). There are 2,945 housing units at an average density of 49.7/km² (128.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.17% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.12% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 2.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,891 households out of which 42.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.2% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.7% are non-families. 11.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.97 and the average family size is 3.23.
