Wesermarsch is a Kreis (district) in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. Geography

The district is located at the western banks of the River Weser between Bremen and the river's mouth. Several rivers cross the district from west to east, the largest of them being the Hunte, which runs through Oldenburg before entering Wesermarsch. In the north the Weser mouth and the Jadebusen (a bay of the North Sea) enclose the Butjadingen peninsula. Here the largest town of the district is located: Nordenham, lying opposite to Bremerhaven at the Weser mouth. Weser watershed The Weser is a river of north-western Germany. ... History

The district was created in 1933 by merging the Ämter of Butjadingen, Brake and Elsfleth, and parts of the Ämter of Delmenhorst and Varel. Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the red and yellow bars of the state of Oldenburg in its left half. In the bottom right a warrior is depicted, symbolizing the Frisian tribes which originally settled in the area. The ship in the top right is a cog, the typical trading ship of the area in medieval times. It symbolizes the long trading tradition at the mouth of the River Weser.

Het "Landschaftsrahmenplan is een expertise over de bijzonderheden en de betekenis van de natuur in de "Landkreis Wesermarsch", die 1992 afgerond is. In het LRP is geconstateerd, dat 25% van het gebied van de Wesermarsch een bijzonder grote betekenis heeft voor de natuur en uitgewezen zou kunnen worden als natuurreservaat.
De betekenis voor de natuur is gebaseerd op de grote bestanden van weidevogels (kievit, grutto en tureluur enz.), die in de Wesermarsch op grond van kenmerken van het landschap en de exploitatie als weiland broeden.
Dit is enerzijds het gebied "Moorriem/ Hunteniederung" en anderzijds het gebied "Stollhammer Wisch".
