Economy

Rich in Agriculture. Rice, Sugar are important crops. Most of the people belongs to agriculture & education is moderate in the people. Most People live in villages. Urbanisation is less as most people live in remote areas. Sea food cultivation is also important in the district. Tanuku is famous for Andhra Sugar Factory. Ceramics was another industry developed in the district. There is a jute mill in the district headquarters i.e, Eluru. ONGC had footage at Narsapuram. Apart of this, there is no significant industrialization in the district. Backward community economy & living conditions are deplorable. Most of them works as agriculture labour or in gulf countries. Meagre earning capacity driving them towards cities like Hyderabad, Vizag.

Still conventional techniches are followed by farmers & dependence on labour for agricultural works.Modernization in agricultire is not developed as like Punjab & Haryana.

Economy is mostly agricultural based.

Kolleru lake, one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia and habitat for up to 50,000 resident and migratory birds, is located partially within the district. The region mostly has a tropical climate like the rest of the Coastal Andhra region. The summers (March-June) are very hot and humid with practically non-existent winters.
