West Peavine is a census-designated place located in Adair County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 225.


Geography

West Peavine is located at 35°54'33" North, 94°38'58" West (35.909233, -94.649390)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 20.1 km˛ (7.8 mi˛). 20.1 km˛ (7.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 225 people, 94 households, and 70 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 11.2/km˛ (29.0/mi˛). There are 98 housing units at an average density of 4.9/km˛ (12.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 47.56% White, 0.00% African American, 40.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 12.44% from two or more races. 1.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 94 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.5% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.79.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 116.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.6 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $18,750, and the median income for a family is $18,333. Males have a median income of $21,607 versus $31,667 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $13,219. 26.4% of the population and 26.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 29.3% of those under the age of 18 and 8.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
