The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six official academic bodies responsible for the accreditation of public and private universities, colleges, secondary and elementary schools in the United States and foreign institutions of American origin. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges has jurisdiction over the states of California and Hawai'i, territories of Guam, American Samoa, Micronesia, Palau, Northern Marianas Islands, Pacific Rim, East Asia and areas of the Pacific and East Asia where American schools or colleges may apply to it for service.
WASC was formed on July 1, 1962 to evaluate and accreditschools, colleges, and universities in California, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau.
WASC functions through a Board of Directors and three accrediting Commissions: the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, and the Accrediting Commission for Schools.
The WASC President shall arrange a hearing for representatives of the institution before the Association's Hearing Board, established for this purpose, as prescribed in Article VI of the Constitution of the WesternAssociation of Schools and Colleges (pages 128-131).
