The Western Bay of Plenty District Council is a municipality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. The seat of the district council is at Greerton in Tauranga City (which is a separate area that is not part of the district).


The wards (for the purposes of electing district councillors) are Waihi Beach, Katikati, Kaimai, Te Puke and Maketu.

The second local authority in New Zealand to be awarded internationally recognised quality standards, the Western BOP District Council covers five wards from Waihi Beach to Maketu.
The Western Bay of Plenty occupies an area of 212,000 hectares and includes a diverse landscape, from rugged bush covered Kaimai Ranges to coastal lowlands, swampy estuaries and pohutukawa fringed coastal margin.
Council use a variety of strategies to protect and enhance the natural resources of the district and were the first local authority in New Zealand to initiate a school and community water quality monitoring programme (Stream Sense).
