The Western Division is one of four divisions that make up the Arena Football League. It is also one of two divisions that make up the "American Conference". It currently consists of the Arizona Rattlers, the Las Vegas Gladiators, the Los Angeles Avengers, the San Jose SaberCats, and the Utah Blaze. The Rattlers were formed in 1995 as an expansion team. The Gladiators were formed within the NC Eastern in 1997 as the New Jersey Red Dogs before changing their name 2001 to the New Jersey Gladiators. Even though they became the Las Vegas Gladiators in 2003, they didn't join the AC Western until 2004. The L.A. Avengers were formed in 2000 as an expansion team. The SaberCats were formed as an expansion team in 1995. The Blaze were formed in 2006 as an expansion team.
