A 4th Generation Whammy Pedal A Whammy Pedal is an effects pedal produced by Digitech that bends the pitch of a guitar's signal. The pitch is controlled by a rocker pedal, like a Wah pedal. Since its original release, the pedal has seen four incarnations: The original pedal, which remains the most sought-after; the more complex Whammy-wah, used by members of Korn in the late 90's; a Bass whammy, which Tool bassist Justin Chancellor is known to use; and the current fourth edition, which is much closer to the original in terms of design but with several new features. Tom Morello was the first guitarist to make liberal use of the Whammy pedal's possibilities, and has become his trademark sound, appearing on nearly every song on Rage Against The Machine's debut album. Morello is a devout user of the first generation, due to the synthetic sound the slow tracking can generate. Steve Vai and Joe Satriani also use the original model. Matthew Bellamy of Muse uses a 4th generation Whammy pedal to take advantage of its MIDI capabilities. Jack White uses one to great effect in solos. Jazz player John Scofield also used a whammy pedal on much of his later works. Image File history File links WhammyPedal. ...
