Lodge Whifflet St John - No. 963 (5507 words)
In the year 1903 a number of Masonic Brethren resident mainly in the village of Whifflet decided that it was necessary to have a Masonic Lodge within the area and for this purpose a meeting was called on the 29th October of that year.
On the 4th of February, 1904 a Charter was granted to Lodge “Whifflet St. John” and she was registered under the number of 963 on the Roll of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.
May Lodge Whifflet St. John go from strength to strength and be ever able to continue to practice the truest tenets of Freemasonry.

In 1967 the road bridge, known as Whifflet Viaduct, was reconstructed to accommodate a dual carriageway, the extension being to the south of the old bridge.
Whifflet South Junction Signalbox closed in 1968, as it was in the way of bridge renewal and widening work which was to be carried out on Calder Street.
