White Mountain is a city located in Nome Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 203.

White Mountain is located at 64°40'51" North, 163°24'24" West (64.680856, -163.406538)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km˛ (2.0 mi˛). 4.6 km˛ (1.8 mi˛) of it is land and 0.6 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 11.82% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 203 people, 69 households, and 46 families residing in the city. The population density is 44.0/km˛ (113.7/mi˛). There are 75 housing units at an average density of 16.3/km˛ (42.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 13.30% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 83.74% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 2.46% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 69 households out of which 43.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 24.6% are married couples living together, 26.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 30.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.94 and the average family size is 3.55.


In the city the population is spread out with 40.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 109.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 132.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $25,833, and the median income for a family is $29,688. Males have a median income of $41,250 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the city is $10,034. 22.4% of the population and 16.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.1% of those under the age of 18 and 12.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
